Purpose To recognize outstanding members of the Deep Run High School Band (including musicians and color guard) and to help them pursue higher education.
It is essential that you review the entire scholarship application before completing to ensure that it is done correctly. The Deep Run Band Boosters will start accepting applications on March 15, 2023. Interested candidates should return the completed application no later than Thursday, April 13, 2023. Deep Run High School Band Booster Scholarship Criteria Any senior who is a member of the Deep Run High School Band or Color Guard may be eligible to apply for one of the DRHS Band Booster Scholarships. Please review the scholarship criteria below to determine if you qualify.
Eligibility
Maintain a non-weighted 2.5 GPA in your first 3.5 years of High School.
All Applicants must provide a copy of their unofficial high school transcript.
Must have been in Band/Color Guard at least 3 years of high school, either at DRHS or a prior High School, including the senior year at Deep Run High School.
All Band Fees must be paid and in good standing (no delinquent band fees).
Must submit the Deep Run Band Booster Scholarship application, and required documents, by the deadline. Incomplete applications will be returned to the student, and any late submittals will not be considered.
If awarded a DRBB Scholarship, recipient must provide proof of acceptance such as letter, email, and/or screenshot from a degree-granting postsecondary education program at a college, university, or trade school. If acceptance is known at the time of this application, you may submit the evidence along with the application.
Applicants who have received a full scholarship are not eligible for the Deep Run Band Booster Scholarship.
Scholarship Details
In 2023, the Deep Run Band Boosters are offering two scholarships for $500, totaling $1000 (no student will receive more than $500).
Consideration will not be based on which college, university, or trade school the applicant will be attending, nor the intended major.
The Scholarship application is available to download from the DRHS Band Booster website.
Scholarship recipients and their parent/guardian will be notified by May 1 of their award, either by letter or at an in-person band event.
Scholarship recipients will be invited to read their essays at the Spring Band Concert, when Seniors are recognized (this is optional).
Scholarship awards will be paid by June 1st directly to the DRHS student, with notification to their parent/guardian, after receipt of proof of acceptance to the postsecondary educational institution.
In the event that a recipient becomes ineligible for any reason, the award will be forfeited and returned to the DRHS Band Boosters.
Selection Process Applications will be reviewed and scored by a Scholarship Selection Committee (SSC) named by the Band Booster Executive Committee. Relatives of current senior band or color guard students will not be eligible to serve on the SSC during their student’s senior year. The SSC will include one faculty member from DRHS and 4 parent/guardian volunteers and/or community members.

Scoring Scoring will be based on participation information provided in the application, band or color guard director evaluation, a teacher evaluation, and a student essay. All applications will be evaluated based on the following rubric:
Band and/or Color Guard Participation - 50%
Band Director or Color Guard Director Evaluation - 20%
Teacher Evaluation - 10%
Essay - 20%
Application Please access and complete the Scholarship Application. Applications and all supporting material should be submitted electronically per the instructions found therein, and are due no later than 4:00 pm ET on April 13, 2023.
Teacher Evaluation You will need to contact one of your core class teachers (English, Math, Science, History) and ask if they would be willing to fill out a short evaluation form on your behalf. After receiving confirmation from the teacher, please share this Teacher Evaluation form with them, and ask them to fill it out and submit it. Give your teacher plenty of time (3-5 days, at least) to complete and return their evaluation before the due date for the scholarship application.
